· CalSavers-how it addresses the retirement needs of employees of small employers  

· Private Qualified Plans-alternatives to CalSavers that are available to small plan sponsors

· IRA-Based Plans-how these types of plans compare to CalSavers and Private Qualified Plans

 Our speakers:

CalSavers: Katie Selenski, Executive Director of CalSavers, appointed by the California State Treasurer in 2017 to serve as the first Executive Director of the California Secure Choice Retirement Savings Investment Board, which operates CalSavers, the state’s pioneering retirement savings program. The program will provide a path to retirement security for millions Californians who currently lack access to a retirement savings vehicle at work.

Prior to taking the helm at CalSavers, Ms. Selenski was the State Policy Director for pension policy at The Pew Charitable Trusts in Washington, D.C., where she managed Pew’s efforts to help fiscally distressed states and cities undertake data-driven pension system improvements.  Previously, she was a senior manager with the nonpartisan public sector consulting firm Harvey M. Rose Associates, based in San Francisco, where she advised policymakers on a wide array of budget, management, and policy matters, including pensions. She has also worked as a municipal bond rating analyst, a legislative fellow in the California Assembly, and the director of an historic statewide nonpartisan youth voter turnout initiative. Ms. Selenski is a member of the advisory board of the Aspen Institute’s Leadership Forum on Retirement Savings. She is a graduate of the University of Chicago and the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.

Private Qualified Plans: David Kobrine is president and founder of Pension Benefits Unlimited, Inc. whose primary responsibilities include plan consulting, design, implementation and new business development. David is an actuary with over 30 years’ experience in all types of qualified plans, including defined benefit pension, cash balance, money purchase pension, 401(k), profit sharing and employee stock ownership plans. A graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles, David holds a B.A. degree in Mathematics. He is an Associate of the Society of Actuaries, Member of the American Academy of Actuaries, Member of the American Society of Pension Professionals and Actuaries and is an Enrolled Actuary. David is a frequent speaker at industry related seminars and workshops and has been an instructor for the American Society of Pension Professionals and Actuaries.

IRA-Based Plans:

Sunjay Kumar is an Institutional Retirement senior product specialist focusing on Employer Sponsored IRAs. He has 12 years of investment industry experience, all with Capital Group. He holds a master’s degree in marketing and product management from The Paul Merage School of Business, and a bachelor’s degree in marketing and business law from California Polytechnic University. Sunjay is based in Los Angeles.

Marion Pierce is a Compliance Specialist at Capital Group, focusing on retirement accounts. Marion completes compliance testing assignments, provides oversight of regulatory processes and procedures, and advises associates and managers on business referrals. She has 15 years of industry experience, all with Capital Group. She received a bachelor’s degree from the California State University of Fullerton.

  This Seminar will be held in the offices of The Capital Group.  Check-in is from 11:00 a.m.  Due to the special nature of this program, we cannot accept walk-ins the day of the event.

  • 3 CPEs for ASPPA certifications
  • 3 CECs for NIPA certifications
  • 3 hours for California CPAs 
  • 2.5 hours of California MCLE
  • 3 hours for Certified Financial Planners
