We are pleased to welcome back Steve Forbes to present us with his always-informative Legislative and Regulatory Update.  Please note this is a WEDNESDAY meeting.

During this past year, the two sets of fee regulations have commanded most of the attention in the retirement plan area.  As you have focused your attention on keeping up with your normal workload and implementing the two sets of fee regulations, the IRS and DOL have continued issuing guidance on other important issues.  Furthermore, the two agencies have stepped up their enforcement of existing requirements.  In this meeting, we primarily will focus on the other important developments over the past year.  In particular, we will discuss topics on which the IRS and DOL enforcement is focused.

The topics to be covered include IRS administrative questionnaire initiative and its impact on plan audits, IRS correction procedures, insights on plan audits, DOL enforcement activity, court cases that affect plan administration, and other important guidance.

Our speaker will be Stephen W. Forbes, JD, LL.M., a Vice President in the Denver Division of SunGard.  A graduate of George Washington University Law Center, Steve joined SunGard Corbel in 1998 with the PPD asset acquisition.  Before joining Pension Publications of Denver in 1988, Steve was a Tax Law Specialist with the National Office of the Internal Revenue, Employee Plans Division, where he was a final reviewer for the prototype program, drafted Revenue Rulings, Revenue Procedures and Notices, and participated in several Treasury regulation committees.  He also taught training classes to IRS Tax Law Specialists.  Steve was formerly an Adjunct Professor (Qualified Deferred Compensation), Graduate Tax Program, University of Denver College of Law.  He conducts many SunGard Corbel seminars, including the ERISA Workshop, prototype, 401(k), 403(b), and private in-house seminars.  Steve is also the author of The 5500 Filing Guide and a contributing author of The Pension Library.

Doors open at 7:30 a.m. for check-in, breakfast and networking.  Our program will begin at 8:00 a.m. and this program will end at approximately 10:00 a.m.  The registration fee includes a full breakfast buffet and hosted parking in the self-parking lot at the Hyatt.

The reservation deadline for this event is Thursday, September 13.
