ERISA Expense Accounts: What are they and why do I want one?
Plan fees are, and have been for some time, a hot issue. One method of managing fees is through the use of an ERISA expense account, sometimes called a fee recapture account. This session will discuss the different structures and issues that arise with ERISA expense accounts.
Our discussion will be Jason Bortz, Vice President, Associate Counsel for Capital Research and Management Company, the investment adviser to American Funds. He specializes in tax and ERISA matters. He spent the last 14 years in Washington, DC law firms, most recently as a partner at Davis & Harman LLP. Jason has been outside counsel to a number of financial institutions and represented industry trade associations, including the ICI, the American Benefits Council, and the ACLI. Jason is a contributing author to several books, including the 403(b) Answer Book, the Annuities Answer Book, The Complete Guide to Nonprofits and BNA's Tax Management Portfolio on Cash or Deferred Arrangements. He is a graduate of Cornell Law School.
