    This special program has been designed to provide a basic foundation of pension knowledge to those new to this field.  You will want to attend this program if:

    Understanding ERISA-The Statutory Framework and Its Intended Protections with Robert 'Hitz' Burton, J.D., Aon

    Hitz is a partner in Aon’s Wealth practice located in the firm’s Irvine office where he provides advice to clients regarding the design and administration of their qualified and nonqualified retirement plans as well as their other benefit programs and policies. Hitz has extensive experience with the issues that impact qualified plans and their administration following merger and acquisition activity. In the last ten years, he has been the lead Aon consultant on over 50 acquisitions for Fortune 200® clients of the firm. Additionally, Hitz has been the lead consultant on more than two dozen compliance audits for qualified retirement plans focused on IRS tax qualification and ERISA fiduciary matters. Hitz is a current board member and past President of the Orange County Chapter of the Western Pension & Benefits Council. He regularly speaks in various public forums focusing on topics involving retirement plans.

    Introduction to Qualified Plans & 401(k) Plan Design/Requirements with Phuong Jennings, QKA, EGPS, Inc.

    Phuong Jennings, Regional Vice President, brings with her over 15 years of 401(k) and pension industry knowledge with an exceptional understanding of ERISA legal plan documents. She works with Financial Advisers, CPAs and other trusted advisers in helping design the appropriate 401(k), Profit Sharing or Defined Benefit/Cash Balance plan for their business clients. She started out in the Third-Party Administration (TPA) side of the business and has also been on the recordkeeping vendor side of the industry as well. Her hands-on experiences have given her an in-depth understanding of the technical world of retirement plans. 

    ERISA & Fiduciary Responsibilities with Tina Schackman, CFA, CFP, Benefit Financial Services Group (BFSG)                     

    Tina re-joined Benefit Financial Services Group in 2019 after spending 7 years with Prudential Retirement where she was responsible for managing the firm’s intermediary relationships in the Western US.  Tina was originally with BFSG from 2004 to 2011 and primarily served as an Investment Consultant to qualified plan sponsors of corporate and public retirement plans.  Tina currently serves as a Principal and Senior Retirement Plan Consultant where she provides investment and plan design consulting, fiduciary education, and plan compliance oversight to her clients.

    ERISA Audit and Compliance Overview with Mark Murphy, CPA, Marcum LLP.                                                

    Mark Murphy is an Audit Partner in the Assurance Services group at Marcum LLP and has been practicing in public accounting for over 35 years. As a partner, he is primarily in charge of planning and supervising audit and other attestation engagements in a wide array of industries including technology, healthcare, real estate, service, distribution, and manufacturing. He is highly experienced with ERISA compliance and employee benefit plan audits. He has spoken at numerous retirement plan-based seminars and has served as a Board member for two non-profit educational organizations which sponsor educational forums for the retirement plan industry.
