By this point, you are probably aware that the U.S. Supreme Court issued a decision in the U.S. v. Windsor case declaring Section 3 of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) unconstitutional. But do you know how this decision impacts sponsors of employee benefit plans? Jennifer Ross Berrian will be here to fully explain the Court's decision, related IRS guidance, and how the decision may impact you.
Jennifer Ross Berrian is a Legal Consultant at Aon Hewitt. She has over 18 years of experience as an attorney, 13 of those focused on assisting clients with their employee benefit programs. She assists her clients with all aspects of their employee benefits programs including their defined benefit plans, defined contribution plans, nonqualified deferred compensation plans, and health and welfare plans. Jennifer's advice spans the spectrum from initial design planning, drafting plans, amendments, summary plan descriptions, board resolutions and employee communications, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations, correcting errors in plan administration, to freezing and terminating plans. She is a trusted advisor to many clients. Jennifer received her Juris Doctor degree from the University of Utah in 1995 and spent four years as a trial attorney. She went back to school and received a Master of Laws in Taxation from New York University in 2000. Jennifer is a member of the California and Utah Bars.
